Amelie
A painfully shy waitress working at a tiny Paris
cafe, Amelie makes a surprising discovery and sees her life
drastically changed for the better! From then on, Amelie
dedicates herself to helping others find happiness ... in the
most delightfully unexpected way! Amelie is a charming comedy
filled with quirky, loveable characters, Though the movie is in
French with English subtitles, shortly into the film you forget
they're there. Audrey Tautou is wonderful as the kindhearted and
impish Amelie.
Blonde
by Joyce Carol Oates
This is a new look on the life of Norma Jean Baker, better known
as Marilyn Monroe. You are taken back to the early part of the
century through the eyes of one of America's most famous faces.
From her childhood, many men, and finally her controversial
death. After reading this book, I enjoyed it so much that I went
out and purchased it for myself.
Bloodstream By Tess Gerritsen
Great light reading -- easy style of writing. Medical suspense,
storyline quite plausible...

enjoyable read.
The Dark Room By Rachel
Seiffert
Three short stories set in Germany: during WWII, just after the
war, and many years later. Interesting to read WWII fiction
written from the German perspective.
Eragon by
Christopher Paolini --
For a book written by a kid who finished high school 3 years
early and started his first novel when he was fifteen, this is
one of the best. Eragon is set in Alagaesia, a huge land
with an evil tyrant for a king. Eragon is merely a poor farm
boy, hunting in the mountains when he happens upon a mysterious
stone. Before he realizes what's going on, Eragon is thrown into
a plot much bigger than his simple farm life. With a Lord of
the Rings feel (but without the lengthy description and
explanations), Eragon is one of the best fantasy book every.
Faerie
Wars by Herbie Brennan --
Henry Atherton is just a boy, working for an elderly neighbor
when his life is incredibly and suddenly changed when he
stumbles upon a small faerie named Pyrgus Malvae, the heir to
the throne of the House of Iris. The two creatures, boy and
faerie, work together with the help of elderly Mr. Fogarty to
return Pyrgus to his home world. As soon as Pyrgus returns,
however, he and Henry are thrown into a struggle between the
Faeries of the Light and Faeries of the Night. This is an epic
novel sure to grip your attention and never let go until you've
read the last page. Don't forget to read the sequel,
The Purple Emperor.
Gray Matter
By Gary Braver
A fast-paced, fascinating, thought-provoking novel about
children who are “enhanced” through brain surgery. Great read!
The Haj
By Leon Uris
Gives insight into Arab/Jewish history, from late 1800's to
1950's. May perhaps offer some understanding of current middle
eastern conflict. Intriguing story/saga, easy style.

This is a story of Nitta Sayuri, a Japanese girl who is forced
to become a Geisha for the better of her family. She is taken
away from her sister and father and taught another life. Then
when WW2 strikes and all the girls' life must all but stop. This
book opens you up to another life. Everyone should read this
book, and more than once.
Nobody's Baby but Mine By Susan Elizabeth Phillips
When Dr. Jane Darlington, physics professor, turns 34 she
decides to have a baby. But with no prospective boyfriends (let
alone husbands) and no chance of artificial insemination (as
most donors are medical students and therefore too smart), Jane
decides to have a one-night stand with "dumb jock" Cal Bonner.
Nobody's Baby but Mine is a humorous and delightful summer read.
If you enjoy this be sure to read about the other Bonner
brothers in Dream a Little Dream.
An Offer from a Gentleman
By Julie Quinn
After years of forced servitude for her father’s second wife,
Sophie Beckett, the illegitimate darter of an earl, has longed
to be part of London’s high society. Hiding behind a mask,
Sophie attends a masquerade ball and meets Benedict Bridgerton.
Benedict, the second son of a rich and powerful family, becomes
enamored of the mysterious lady in silver. This Cinderella
story, set in 1815, is a delightful summer read If you enjoy
this, don’t miss the other two titles in the Brigerton series.
Out of Sight By Elmore
Leonard
In a jailbreak gone wrong, bank robber Jack Foley becomes the
unwanted the kidnapper of Deputy U.S. Marshall Karen Sisco.
After escaping, Karen joins task force hunting for the elusive
Foley. The search takes her from the beaches of Miami to the
streets of Detroit. Out of Sight is an excellent book with an
in-charge female lead, quirky supportive characters and a
likeable bad guy.
Perfect By
Judith McNaught
Zach Benedict had the perfect life as an award winning
actor/director until he was found guilty of the murder of his
actress wife. After years in prison, Zack devises a plan to
escape and hunt down his wife’s real killer. When things go sour
Zack kidnaps school teacher Julie Mathison and takes her to a
secluded cabin in the mountains. Perfect is one of my favorite
books by Judith McNaught. A very enjoyable read!!!
Peyton Place
By Grace Metalious
Peyton Place is a terrific novel about the citizens of a small
New England town whose favorite pastime is gossiping. The story
revolves around Allison MacKenzie, her mother Constance and a
mixture of quirky characters with closets full of skeletons.
Metalious has a descriptive and often humorous writing style
that sends you into the scandalous town of Peyton Place.
Stealing Shadows by Kay
Hooper
Cassie Neill has inherited a psychic gift from her mother that
is a mixed blessing at best because it enables her to enter the
minds of serial rapists and killers. From her aunt, she inherits
a house tucked away in a corner of quiet little Ryan's Bluff,
North Carolina, where she takes refuge, hoping to distance
herself from the grueling work she's done for the Los Angeles
Police Department. But, just as there's no rest for the weary,
there's no rest for the wicked either, and visions of a deranged
man's plans to kill prompt Cassie to visit Ben Ryan, the small
town's prosecuting attorney. Skeptical but interested, Ben finds
himself drawn toward the oddly bewitching Cassie, just as she is
pulled ever further into the psychotic soul of evil. Stealing
Shadows combines thrilling, paranormal suspense with a touch
of romance to create a fantastic summer read you won't want to
put down. Be sure to check out the other novels in the Noah
Bishop series.
Sweet Liar by Jude
Deveraux
In compliance with her father’s will, Samantha Elliot is
required to live for one year in New York. There, she meets her
new landlord Mike Taggert, whom she later discovers is her
guardian. Together, they must solve the mysterious connection of
an aging mobster and Samantha’s own grandmother, who disappeared
several years ago. “Sweet Liar” is one of my favorite books by
Deveraux. The flashbacks to 1928 are very descriptive and give a
real feel for the time. If you enjoy this book, be sure to read
the other titles in the Montgomery and Taggert series.
Take a Walk on the Dark Side
by R. Gary Patterson --
This book is almost impossible to put down. Patterson
follows the history of dark magic and urban folklore in its
evolution alongside Rock n' Roll. His quick, journalistic style
makes this book a fast read without skimping on the research
necessary to get the facts straight on music's biggest rock
stars. While some of Patterson's implications seem extreme and
far-fetched, much light is shed upon the dark rumors surrounding
top acts such as Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones,
Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Kurt Cobain and many
more. A definite chiller if you're inclined towards the dark
mysteries behind Rock n' Roll. Try not to read this one alone
at night ...
Wicked: The Life and Times of the
Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire
If you have ever wondered what made the wicked witch of the west
so mean, or even why she was green, this is a book you must
read. This is the story of The Wizard of 0z from another view.
You are left with an understanding and compassion for this almost
heartless being. Everyone should read this book.
