Beautification Committee Policy:
HAMBURG TOWNSHIP LIBRARY BEAUTIFICATION
COMMITTEE – This committee and all volunteers will adhere to and
conduct themselves in accordance with Library Policy and other
directives set forth by the Library Board of Trustees.
MEETINGS: Formal meetings will be three times per year at
6:30pm.
Tuesdays, September 8, 2009, February 9, 2010, and June 8, 2010.
MISSION: To enhance the Library’s planting
beds (including the Serenity Garden) while providing resources to
stimulate, educate and encourage recreation for all citizens in the
community.

OBJECTIVES:
- Provide an aesthetically pleasing
horticultural environment surrounding the Library.
- To provide opportunity and encouragement for
people of all ages to learn the horticultural environment.
· Increase
the public’s awareness and appreciation for the use of plants,
preservation, and conservation through enrichment
opportunities to demonstrate sound environmental practices.
ADMINISTRATION:
- Library Director
has final approval of all plans to improve the gardens, including
potential costs and fund raising ideas.
- Items purchased
must be approved and accountable by Library management.
- Volunteers must
sign a Township Liability waiver.
- No volunteer or
committee member may plant or remove items without express
permission of Library management.
COMMITTEE GOALS:
- Establish a plan
for the planting beds (including the Serenity Garden) and maintain
diagram layouts.
- Establish a
budget for maintenance and ongoing up keep, which needs to be
completed by February 1st of each year.
- Establish low
maintenance plantings, focus on perennials, non-evasive plants,
earth-friendly fertilizers (subject to Township ordinances), and
wetland area protection plantings.
- Research sources
for donations, grants and other fund raising possibilities.
- Work with
Livingston County Extension office for resources with Master
Gardener volunteer program and horticultural information.
